2005.Sep.03 Kayaking

Kayaking on the Sturgeon River, the fastest flowing stream in Lower Michigan. We opted for the 5 hour trip from Big Bear Adventures that starts you in Wolverine and runs you back to the Big Bear facility in Indian River. 30 minutes into the trip, Tanya got sideways against a log and submerged, it took me about 10 minutes to get her kayak out and drained, and another 45 minutes for her to dry off. Of course I didn't manage to get a picture of the submerged kayak. Other than that, it was a great trip, and beautiful scenery. Several rough rapids, a small sluice drop that submerges most of your kayak, and lots of 'paddle your ass off' corners with log jams make for an entertaining ride.
